After the ink drawing was made I scanned it in and opened another picture of EVA 01. I work in photoshop so I used the tear-drop color select tool to get the correct colors. I also paid special attention to how they shaded it, as well as the highlights and mimicked them as best I could, using their color pallet.
To create the glow on the green I selected the green, copied it and pasted it in the same spot, then blurred it. Sometimes you do that a couple times to get a really nice effect. I selected the silhouette of the drawing and filled it with white, then put it behind the image to make the whole figure glow.
Reference is really important. And there is nothing wrong with a little tracing to help you get things right. (learned that in art school!) Many people want to learn Manga so they go out and buy those HOW TO DRAW books, but those books are never drawn by the masters. I learned the most from art books and just looking up pics on the internet of things I like. There is one excellent Mech book out there that I have found called 50 ROBOTS TO DRAW AND PAINT. Check it out.
Any other questions, feel free to ask.
I have Eva 02 and 01 fom Revoltech O.o
